Railsplitters Ranked 6th In First NCAA Southeast Region Poll
September 7, 2010
HARROGATE, TN - Only a game into the 2010 season, the Lincoln Memorial University men's soccer team is receiving respect from the NCAA Division II Southeast Region. In the opening poll released this year, the Railsplitters broke the ice as the no. 6 ranked team and were one of five SAC teams ranked among the top-10 in the region.
The Railsplitters finished the 2009 campaign with a 10-5-1 record, including a 6-1-1 conference mark and ended the year in the quarterfinal round of the 2010 Food Lion South Atlantic Conference Tournament with a 1-0 loss to conference opponent Mars Hill College.
Although the LMU men only lost five seniors, they lost a total of 12 players from last years squad including seven starters, which forced Head Coach Helio D'Anna to pound the recruiting trail with even greater intensity. That intensity was evident with the addition of 11 newcomers that have combined with the returning veterans to help the Railsplitters off to a 1-0 start by defeating the University of Alabama-Huntsville 1-0 in their opening match of the season.
This Friday evening the LMU men travel to Milligan, Tennessee to take on the Buffaloes of Milligan College in an out of region match. Milligan, an NAIA opponent, usually boasts one of the top-25 programs in the country. This Friday however, the Buffaloes will enter their meeting with the Railsplitters holding an 0-3 record while looking for their first win of the year. First touch is set for 7:00 p.m.
