Lady Railsplitters Stand In Fourth After Opening Round Of Anderson Invitational

ANDERSON, S.C. – On a bright and sunny but windblown day, the Tusculum Pioneers posted a 34 over par opening round 322 at the Anderson Invitational Women’s Golf Tournament and holds a six-stroke edge on Pfeiffer College after the first round Monday afternoon at the par 72, 5,812 yard Anderson Country Club in Anderson.
Pioneer sophomore Jillian Corum carded a four-over 76 and leads Lenoir-Rhyne’s Katie Thackerson and Pfeiffer’s Steph Peareth by two shots heading into Tuesday’s final round.
Overall, there 12 golfers within six strokes of the lead, with TC’s Sarah Howard and Emily Palenkas each notching three birdies on the day, while Peareth led the field with 12 pars in the opening round.
The host Trojans, led by freshman Katie Eskew’s round of eight-over 80, holds the third spot at 338, with Lincoln Memorial just behind at 340. Lenoir-Rhyne sits 19 strokes off the pace in fifth, while Erskine posted a round of 354 and holds sixth.
Limestone (359), St Andrews Presbyterian (363) and North Greenville (368) hold the seventh, eighth and ninth positions, respectively.
he teams are back on the course for final-round action on Tuesday with a shotgun start at 9 a.m.
