LMU Men's Tennis Takes 3rd At Patriot Fall Classic

WILLIAMSBURG, KY - Recently, members of the Lincoln Memorial University men's tennis team participated in the Patriot Fall Classic hosted by the University of the Cumberlands in Williamsburg, Kentucky while taking 3rd place among the six teams involved in the event.

The doubles duo of Philipp Hoffmann (Karsruhe, Germany) and Tom Goossens (Moerbeke-Waas, Belgium) continued to their success as a doubles team with an 8-2 win in the opening round over Covenant Colleges' Jeremiah and Myers.  However, in the second round, Hoffmann and Goossens lost to Carson-Newman's Swartz and Slagle 9-7 to end doubles play at 1-1.

In singles action, Hoffmann was victorious in his opening round over CC's Josh Johnson when he came away with a 3-6, 6-4, 10-6 win.  Hoffmann later defeated Lindsey Wilson's Andres Santos 3-6, 6-4, 10-4 to complete singles play undefeated.

LMU newcomer Alexy Minevskiy (Russia) had no problems with the University of the Cumberlands' David Ujueta in his opening round match.  Minevskiy won easily with scores of 6-2, 6-2 before falling in his second match to Lindsey Wilson's Victor Saez 4-6, 3-6.

In other singles play, the Railsplitter's Michael Koenen (Auckland, New Zealand) lost his opening match to LWC's Marlon Dalpont 6-7, 4-6, 3-7 while teammate Robert Crnalic (Almhult, Sweden) rolled to a 6-3, 6-4 win over the Patriots' Drew Hill.  Crnalic's match with Stephen Woody of Covenant College did not have a final score.

The Railsplitter's 2010 fall season is now complete and the team will begin off-season conditioning in preparation to defend their 2010 South Atlantic Conference regular season and conference tournament titles.  That trek will begin February 5th when the Railsplitters travel to Williamsburg, Kentucky to take on the Patriots of the University of the Cumberlands.
