Railsplitters Stunned In Double Overtime Loss To Wingate

HARROGATE, TN -- The Lincoln Memorial men's soccer team dropped the final match of the regular season Saturday afternoon, losing to Wingate in double overtime, 2-1.
LMU struck first in the match. After a scoreless opening half, sophomore midfielder Fernando Silveira notched a goal in the 66th minute, placing a beautifully struck lob shot over the Wingate keeper to give the Railsplitters a 1-0 lead.
However, Wingate answered quickly as Frabricio Barancoski scored off the cross by Jack Vundum in the 74th minute.
This tied the game, a score which would remain until the end of regulation.
The first overtime period saw multiple opportunities for each team. Yet, neither capitalized, sending the match to a second overtime period. In the 102nd minute, a corner kick by Bulldog midfielder Luke Mulholland create a scramble at the front of the net. Stephen Kehoe was able to fight through the shuffle and score the deciding goal. Wingate took the match, 2-0, in double overtime.
With the loss, the Railsplitters drop to 6-3 in South Atlantic Conference play and 10-5-1 overall. This was the final regular season match for LMU. They await the final pairings for the SAC tournament. The Railsplitters will be hosting their first-round opponent on Wednesday.
