McKenna & Pereira Named To District IV CoSIDA All-Academic Teams

HARROGATE, TN - Lincoln Memorial University men's soccer midfielder Aaron McKenna (Birmingham, England) and defender Lucas Pereira (Monte Siao, Brazil) have been named to the Academic All-American/CoSIDA District 4 First and Third Teams.

McKenna, a 5'9" senior and four-year starter with the Railsplitters earned first team honors and is no stranger to conference, regional or national accolades.  In only his sophomore season, McKenna was named Second Team All-South Atlantic Conference before earning First Team All-SAC honors as a junior.  In addition, he as named an NSCAA All-Southeast Region honoree in both 2008 and 2009 while being named an NSCAA Scholar All-Region performer last year.  This year he was a 2010 Preseason All-South Atlantic Conference First Team selection and has helped lead the Railsplitters (10-5-1, 6-3) to a fourth place conference regular season finish and a berth in the 2010 Food Lion South Atlantic Conference Men's Soccer Tournament as the league's no. 4 seed.

Pereira is in his second season with the Railsplitters and received third team honors.  Since joining the LMU men's soccer team in the fall of 2009, Pereira has been a major impact on the University's men's soccer program.  In his first season with the Railsplitters, Pereira was a First Team All-South Atlantic Conference selection while earning NSCAA All-Southeast Region Second Team as well.  Before the beginning of the 2010 men's soccer season, he was a Preseason First Team All-SAC selection and has since helped the Railsplitters achive a conference-best eight shutouts, a mark that has been tied by only Mars Hill College this season.

On Wednesday afternoon, McKenna and Pereira, both seniors, will help lead the no. 4 seed Railsplitters when they take on  no. 5 seed Mars Hill College for the right to advance to the SAC Tournament semifinals to be played Friday evening in Rock Hill, South Carolina.  Wednesday's match between Lincoln Memorial University and Mars Hill College will get underway at 3:00 p.m. on the LMU soccer field.
