Lady Railsplitters Finish The Preseason On A High Note With Exhibition Win Over Maryville 84-68

HARROGATE, TN -- The Lincoln Memorial University women's basketball team defeated the Lady Scots of Maryville College 84-68 Thursday evening to finish up their preseason schedule.

In the opening minutes of the first half, the Lady Scots jumped out to an early 5-0 lead. The Lady Railsplitters quickly jumped into the lead, controlling the pace for most of the first twenty minutes of play. A three-point basket by Amberly O'Dell gave LMU a 6-5 lead. With a minute remaining in the first half, the Lady Railsplitters had taken a commanding 15 point lead. A run by Maryville cut the lead to 8 points at the end of the half. LMU took a 41-33 lead into the lockerroom.

The Scots continued this run at the onset of the second half of play, cutting the Lincoln Memorial lead to two points. Maryville would eventually square the game up before the Lady Railsplitters regained control. With an aggressive offensive and defensive attack, LMU shot out to an 18 point lead. As the game winded down, Lincoln Memorial concluded the game with a 16 point victory, defeating the Scots, 84-68.

The Lady Scots were led in scoring by Paige Sevier who finished with 16. Keira Payne finished the game with 11 boards to lead Maryville.

The Lady Railsplitters were led in scoring by Patrice Talley with 16 points to go along with her game-high 13 rebounds. Talley was dominant on the defensive end as well, tallying 6 blocks. Dayshalee Salaman finished with 15 points. Melanie Hemphill also recorded double-digits, finishing with 14 points.

With the preseason completed, LMU will now focus their attention towards their first regular season game on November 19 when they head to Cleveland, Mississippi, to play Southern Arkansas.
