Lady Railsplitters Escape Tornado, 64-62

HARROGATE, TN -- The Lincoln Memorial women's basketball team moved to 2-1 on the season after defeating the Lady Tornado of King College 64-62 Tuesday evening.

The pace of play in the first half was controlled by LMU, who led throughout the entirety of the half. With five minutes remaining in the half, the Lady Railsplitters had amassed a 13 point lead. King was able to cut into that deficit, taking LMU into the half with a 29-24 lead.

The second half was seen as a complete fluctuation in the score of the game. The Tornadoes were able to cut the LMU lead to one with thirteen minutes remaining. By the nine minute mark, the Lady Railsplitters had jumped back out to a 13 point lead. With hot shooting and opportunistic defense, King tied the game with 16 seconds remaining before two free throws by Dayshalee Salaman clinched the game for LMU.

King (1-4) was led in scoring by Ashley Deans and Derika Mooney with 16 apiece. Deans completed her double-double for the game, leading the Lady Tornado in rebounding with 11.

The Lady Railsplitters were led in scoring by Dayshalee Salaman who finished the game with 19 points. Melanie Hemphill added 10 to finish out the double-digit scoring for LMU. Hemphill also led the Lady Railsplitters in rebounding, finishing with 10 for the game. Patrice Talley chipped in, adding 8 boards.

With the win, LMU moves to 2-1 on the season. They will hit the floor again on November 27th as they travel to Mount Olive.
