BARBOURVILLE, KY - The Lincoln Memorial University men's tennis team fell to 3-4 overall on Thursday when they traveled to Barbourville, Kentucky and lost a non-conference match to the Bulldogs of Union College 7-2.
LMU's only victories of the afternoon came at number two doubles and number three singles. In the number two doubles match, Railsplitter newcomers Alexey Mineviskey and Marcelo Alvim defeated Union's Fredrik Graaner and Yvon Haessig 8-6, while Alvim was also victorious in number three singles, defeating Union's Pierre Vernin 7-6, 7-6 to capture LMU's only win of the singles competition.
The Railsplitters are now set to switch gears for this weekend's regional road battle with the Bobcats of Lees-McRae College. LMC is a nationally ranked program and was one of only two teams to defeat the Railsplitters last season and the only team to hand the LMU men a regular season loss in 2010. Saturday's match is set to get underway at 1:00 p.m. in Banner Elk, North Carolina.
