Railsplitters Finish Second At Tusculum Invitational, Chapman Takes Medalist Honors

Jamie Chapman was the medalist. Photo by Tusculum CollegeGREENEVILLE, TN -- The LMU golf team came close to winning their second tournament of the year, but fell three strokes short as host Tusculum College won the Tusculum Invitational Sunday afternoon.
The Pioneers finished with a two-day score of 580, including Sunday’s final round 289. to finish three shots ahead of Lincoln Memorial, who fired a 36-hole total 583, including a 287 on Sunday. Grand Valley State and Findlay finished tied for third with 587, while Limestone placed fifth with 589, including a tournament-best 283 on Sunday.
LMU’s Jamie Chapman captured medalist honors in a playoff over Walters State’s Rafael Jackson. The duo tied for first place at two-under par 140. Tusculum’s Nick York and Joe McGeean tied for third place at 142. TC’s Luke Fullen earned the final spot on the All-Tournament Team via playoff, breaking a four-way tie for fifth place with Chris Cunningham of Grand Valley State and USC Lancaster’s Trevor Banks and Josh Hinson, who all posted 144.
Eight players tied for ninth place at 145, including Joshua Cornett (LMU), Ben Ross (Limestone), Casey Flenniken (Tennessee Wesleyan), Blak DeBruyn (Tiffin), Nick Gunthorpe (Grand Valley St.), Arran Setro (Anderson) and individual competitors Justin Harvey (Tusculum) and Alex Willnow (Grand Valley State).
LMU's Eric Kennedy (74-76=150) and Corey Talley (78-72=150) both tied for 36th place, while Cory Bartlett (82-72=154) and Luke Butler (76-78=154) tied for 59th.
In the team competition, Catawba and USC Lancaster tied for sixth with 591, followed by Tennessee Wesleyan (595), Walters State (598), Anderson (599) and Montevallo (602). Tri-County and Tiffin tied for 12th place with 604, followed by King College (607), Spartanburg Methodist (613), Virginia Intermont (618), Wingate B (629), Brevard (630), Mars Hill (634) and Parkland (644).
The Railsplitters will play Tusculum in a match play contest on Mar. 26 before playing in the North Greenville University Cherokee Valley Invitational Mar. 28-29.
