Tornados Sweep Through Lady Railsplitters, 3-0 and 4-3

HARROGATE, TN -- The Lincoln Memorial University softball team dropped both games of a double-header with the Tornados of Brevard College Wednesday afternoon by scores of 0-3 and 3-4. With the two losses, the Lady Railsplitters fall to 22-19 overall and 3-9 in South Atlantic Conference play.
In game one, magnificent pitching performances were seen from both side as Lincoln Memorial pitcher Katie-Jo Gentry and Brevard pitcher Martika Elmore allowed a combined seven hits in seven innings of scorelss softball.
Both pitchers remained on the mound as the game heading into extra innings. In extra innings, the inning starts with a runner on second base.
In the initial inning of extra play, Brevard College's offense was awakened with four straight two-out hits. All told, the Tornados plated three runs in the inning with five hits. The Lady Railsplitters failed to mount a comeback in the bottom of the eighth as they dropped game one, 0-3.
Despite Gentry's terrific performance, she was saddled with the loss. She allowed only two earned runs in the game.

After falling behind 2-0 in the top of the first, LMU established a tie in the bottom of that inning as Brianna Mulkey scored on a throwing error and Brittany Stuive drove in another with a double.
The Lady Railsplitters took a 3-2 lead in the bottom of the second as Brianna Mulkey scored once again on a throwing error.
Brevard would tie the game in the top of the fourth and go on to take the lead in the top of the seventh as Brittany Fowler was forced in with a walk. Facing a 4-3 deficit, the Lady Railsplitters would be set down in order to end the game with a 4-3 loss.
Katie-Jo Gentry was handed the loss in this game as well, as she through all seven innings and allowed seven hits and two earned runs. With the losses on the day, Gentry's record falls to 5-10 on the season.
The Lady Railsplitters will look to rebound from this series with a home series versus Mars Hill on April 9th. Double-header action will start at 2 p.m.
