Railsplitters' 3-0 Win Over Pfeiffer Puts Icing On Tuesday's Cake

Box Score

MISENHEIMER, NC - On Tuesday afternoon, the Lincoln Memorial University men's soccer team traveled to Meisenheimer, North Carolina and defeated NCAA Southeast Region opponent Pfeiffer University 3-0 to improve the team's overall record to 7-1-1 on the year.

The victory, the Railsplitters' seventh of the season, came only hours after the Railsplitters received three different topics of good news.  The first good news came early today when the LMU men learned that not only had they climbed back into the NSCAA Top-25 with last week's conference road-wins over then third-ranked Tusculum College (6-1) and unranked Newberry College (3-1), but the team also found out that junior Renato Segalla (Santo Andre, Brazil) had been named South Atlantic Conference Men's Soccer Player of the Week for his efforts in those victories.

As if those two topics weren't enough, LMU also learned today that Railsplitter and 2007 Daktronics National Player of the Year Leandro Pereira (Brasilia, Brazil) had been cleared by doctors today to return to practice in only two more weeks.  Last season Pereira sustained a minor injury in the NCAA Division II semifinals and has been unable to play this season.

Tuesday's win over Pfeiffer while exciting, now tastes a little sweeter knowing that one of the top scorers in the country in 2007 will be rejoining his teammates for the remainder of the season.  "It wasn't the prettiest win, but we'll take it," said LMU Head Coach Helio D'Anna.  "All of these things should really give our guys a great deal of confidence."

Now 7-1-1 on the year and 2-0 in the South Atlantic Conference, this Saturday the Railsplitters will return to the friendly confines of their new field when they play host to NAIA opponent Georgetown College.  The match with the Bulldogs will get underway at 3:00 p.m. on the LMU campus.
