Railsplitters Lose Season Opener At Young Harris, 6-1

YOUNG HARRIS, GA - The LMU Railsplitter soccer team opened their season with a 6-1 loss Young Harris College Thursday afternoon. LMU falls to 1-0 on the season.
It was the first season-opening loss for the Railsplitters since 2003.
At the 34:22 mark, Young Harris' Ilijia Ilic used teammate Mouhamed Bechir's pass to put Young Harris up 1-0. He scored again with an unassisted goal at 41:45 to give YHC a 2-0 lead going into the intermission.
Young Harris picked up two additional goals in the first 4:15 of the final stanza to take a commanding 4-0 lead.
LMU's only goal of the match came at 63:38 when freshman newcomer Mario Pinto scored unassisted to cut the Railsplitters' deficit back to a 4-1 margin. The Mountain Lions would then pick up two more goals in the final ten minutes to put the game away.
Defensively, senior goalkeeper Michael Watkins took the loss as he went the distance in the net for the Railsplitters, stopping 12 shots while giving up six.
The LMU men will continue the road trip as they travel to face former Gulf South Conference rival Alabama-Huntsville Sunday at 4:30 p.m. (3:30 Central Time) in Huntsville, Alabama.
