Mario Pinto's Hat Trick Helps Propel LMU To 5-1 SAC Win Over Newberry

Box Score

HARROGATE, TN -- Three goals by Lincoln Memorial University sophomore Mario Pinto helped the Railsplitters pick up the 5-1 South Atlantic Conference win over Newberry Saturday afternoon.

The win moves the Railsplitters to 2-2-1 on the year and 1-0 in the SAC. Newberry falls to 3-3 and 0-0 in conference play.

LMU took possession of the ball early and often, outshooting the Wolves 21-8 for the match. The Railsplitters struck first at the 17:46 mark when a long pass from Chris Nash found Pinto in front of the goal and he put it in for his third goal of the season. Pinto's fourth goal of the year came less than two minutes later when Leonardo Germinani drove in toward the goal from the right corner, got by the defender and kicked it to Pinto, who chipped it in from three yards out. LMU's third goal of the half came with less than two minutes remaining when Chris Nash fed it to Callum Home from the corner. Home then drove it in to give LMU the 3-0 lead.

Pinto's third goal of the match came a little over three minutes into the second half when he headed in Calum Calder's pass from 12 yards out. Later, Nash would get a goal of his own when Tom Clark rebounded a save by Newberry keeper Patrick Sweatt and gave it to Nash a few feet in front of the open goal at the 56:29 mark.

Newberry would deny LMU the shutout when Stephen Harvey made a move on his defender near midfield and fed a long pass to Kofi Kufuor, who chipped it in over the outstretched hands of LMU backup keeper Brady Seehorn.

Pinto led all players with five shots, three on goal.Yuri Passos had four shots and Nash had three.

Harvey led the Wolves with three shots on the day.
