September 21, 2011
COLUMBUS, GA -- It was an offensive struggle with a combined 30 shots between the teams, but in the end the LMU men's soccer team and Georgia Southwestern battled to a 1-1 tie Wednesday afternoon in Columbus, Georgia.
LMU (2-2-2) got on the board first when a misplayed ball by the GSW backline was picked off by Leornardo Germniani in the 17th minute. Germniani then had a one-vs.-one with keeper Garrett Blamire, putting the ball past the sliding Blamire for his first collegiate goal.
Thirteen minutes later, GSW (2-3-1) equalized the score when KleesBatner Loembet-Makaya's crossed the ball to Hunter Sams for the chip shot.
Despite several opportunities, neither team was able to get the ball across the goal line and the match ended in a 1-1 draw.
Both keepers, LMU's Michael Watkins and GSW's Blamire, each notched four saves.
LMU returns home to host Brevard in a SAC matchup Saturday at 4 p.m.
