Railsplitters Fall To Saints, 2-1
October 1, 2011
COLUMBUS, GA -- A late goal by North Georgia's Manuel Hernandez was enough to push the Saints past LMU 2-1 Saturday afternoon. The game was played on the campus of Columbus State University.
The first half saw the two teams trade shots with neither one being able to get the ball across the goal line.
LMU's Mario Pinto put the Railsplitters ahead 1-0 in the 50th minute when a North Georgia defender misplayed a cross and knocked it right to Pinto, who capitalized on the opportunity.
The Saints tied the match in the 64th minute when a deflected ball was fielded by Max Angel, who then put it in from just outside the box.
Both teams then stepped up the pace and pressure in the hopes of avoiding overtime with the Saints prevailing after Hernandez taking a through pass from Mikki Bokickovic and scoring to give North Georgia the 2-1 lead in the 86th minute. North Georgia then held off the Railsplitters to move to 5-4-1 on the season. LMU falls to 4-3-2.
The Railsplitters will have a week off before returning to South Atlantic Conference action at Lenoir-Rhyne next Saturday at 7:30 p.m.
