Eighth-ranked Anderson Holds Off Railsplitters, 1-0
October 22, 2011
HARROGATE, TN - Playing in their final regular season home match of the year, the Lincoln Memorial University men's soccer team fell 1-0 to South Atlantic Conference leader and eighth-ranked Anderson University Saturday afternoon.
Both the Railsplitters and the Trojans battled through a defensive struggle throughout the first half and into the second until Anderson's Lasse Sohorweide scored from the left side of the goal on a long cross from teammate Daniel Bowers at 50:37. The goal proved to be the only score of the match but was enough for the no. 10 nationally ranked Trojans to defeat the Railsplitters and to remain undefeated in South Atlantic Conference play (8-0) while moving 13-2 overall. LMU falls to 6-5-3 overall and 5-2 in league play.
Offensively, the Trojans outshot the Railsplitters, placing eight shots on frame to LMU's three. From a defensive standpoint, LMU goalkeeper Michael Watkins had five saves with one goal against, while AU keeper Lukas Hesse had three stops for the Trojans.
Anderson University now prepares for non-conference opponent Erskine University Thursday afternoon in Due West, South Carolina at 7:30 p.m., while the Railsplitters will travel to Wingate, North Carolina on Tuesday for a bout with the Bulldogs of Wingate University at four o'clock.
