LMU Softball Team Ranks Among Nation's Best Academically

HARROGATE, TN - Recently, the National Fast Pitch Coaches Association (NFCA) released its NCAA Division II All-Academic Teams & Scholar Athletes.  The publication states the Lincoln Memorial University softball team ranks among the top-20 nationally, while seven Lady Railsplitters qualified as 2011 NCAA Division II Scholar Athletes with a grade point average of 3.5 or above.

Lincoln Memorial University ranked 20th among the 77 All-Academic Teams receiving the honor and finished school year with the highest team grade point average of the four South Atlantic Conference schools named in the release.  During the 2010-11 academic year, the LMU softball team turned in a team GPA of 3.355 finishing 19 places ahead of the Tusculum softball team who placed 39th with a 3.250, Wingate University who placed 59th with a 3.130 and Catawba College who was 71st with a team grade point average of 3.038.

Among the Lady Railsplitters named as Scholar Athletes that possessed a GPA of 3.5 or higher were Alicia King, Ashley Knight, Meghan LaFevor, Brianna Mulkey, Danae Reed, Brittany Stuive and Sarah Walz.  These seven LMU players joined a small percentage of softball student-athletes throughout NCAA Division II that achieved the honor last year.

The 2012 Lady Railsplitters are set to open the spring schedule February 4th when they host the Knights of Bellarmine University at home on the Dorothy Neely Field at 1:00 p.m.
