Railsplitters Remain Perfect, Defeat Tusculum College, 80-66

HARROGATE, TN -- The Railsplitters moved into 2012 by continuing their run of dominant play this season. On Wednesday evening, Lincoln Memorial defeated the Pioneers of Tusculum College by a score of 80-66. With the win, the Railsplitters remain perfect at 3-0 in the South Atlantic Conference and 13-0 overall.

The Pioneers were led by Kevin Vest as he notched 15 points on the evening. Jordan Davidson added 14 while Larry Smith rounded out the double digit performers with 12 points.

The Railsplitters were led by Brandon Armstrong's game-high 23 points. Jake Troyli was strong in a supporting role as he finished with 14 points. Vincent Bailey narrowly missed a double double as he finished with 12 points and eight rebounds. Cam Carden was also strong as he notched 11 points.

The Railsplitters came out early and took command of the game as a three point basket by Cam Carden gave LMU a 14-8 lead with 13:43 remaining. The Pioneers battled tough as they tied the game at 14 apiece with 11:28 remaining. From that point in the game, the Railsplitters slowly pulled away from the Pioneers. With 5:44 remaining in the half, a Jake Troyli tip-in gave LMU a 28-21 lead. By the end of the half, the Railsplitters established a 40-30 advantage.

Lincoln Memorial opened the second half with a flurry as they established a 48-32 lead with 18:03 remaining on the clock. The Railsplitters pressed the issue throughout the half, as they grabbed a 70-50 lead on a Vincent Bailey jumper with 5:44 remaining. Tusculum chipped away slightly at that lead, however, Lincoln Memorial took the game by a score of 80-66.

The Railsplitters will look to continue their dominant stretch of home basketball as they welcome the Wolves of Newberry College on Saturday, January 7th. That game is scheduled to tip at 8 p.m.
