Railsplitters Split Doubleheader At Lenoir-Rhyne To Win SAC Series

HICKORY, NC -- After winning the opening game of the series, the Railsplitters split a South Atlantic Conference baseball doubleheader against the Lenoir-Rhyne Bears on Saturday at Bears Field. The Railsplitters won the first game by a 9-2 score while the Bears prevailed in the second contest, 3-2. With the split, the Railsplitters move to 4-7 on the season and 2-1 in the SAC.

Game One - Lincoln Memorial 9,

The Railsplitters broke open a close contest with a six-run fourth inning en route to the win in game one of the doubleheader.

Trailing 2-1, Lincoln Memorial plated six runs in the top of the fourth highlighted by two-run hits from Kyle Asher (Louisville, Ky.) and Colin Buckner (Harrodsburg, Ky.).

The Railsplitters rounded out the scoring with two more runs in the top of the fifth inning.

Cody Baker (Knoxville, Tenn.) finished with four hits and two runs scored to lead the Railsplitters' 13-hit attack while Lincoln Memorial's Brad Pressley (1-1) picked up the win on the mound. Pressley allowed just two runs in seven innings of work.

Senior Brad Pressley picked up the win in seven strong innings on the mound. He allowed two runs and nine hits while striking out two. He moves to 1-1 on the season.

Game Two - Lenoir-Rhyne 3,

With the score tied at two in the bottom of the seventh, junior outfielder Rai Robinson (Kings Mountain, N.C.) drove in the game-winning run on a fielder's choice to give the Bears the win as they took the final game of the series.

Lenoir-Rhyne scored twice in the bottom of the fifth inning capped off by a sacrifice fly from sophomore second baseman Mike Gasque (Mebane, N.C.) for a 2-1 lead before Nick Pressley's (Knoxville, Tenn.) RBI single in the Railsplitters' half of the sixth tied the score at two.

L-R sophomore Ryan Jones (Asheville, N.C.) went the distance in the victory for the Bears. Jones improved to 2-2 on the season after allowing just two runs on five hits to go along with five strikeouts.

Pressley drove in both of Lincoln Memorial's runs while Brandon Cowan (Tequesta, Fla.) fell to 1-1 with the loss.

Lincoln Memorial will host Northern Kentucky in doubleheader action on Tuesday, February 21st for their home opener. Game one is set for noon.
