Lady Railsplitters Eliminated At Catawba College, 75-65

Photo by Allen Earl PhotographySALISBURY, NC -- The Lady Railsplitters season came to a close on Wednesday evening, as they were defeated in the opening round of the Food Lion South Atlantic Conference Tournament by the Catawba College Indians, 75-65, in Salisbury, North Carolina. Lincoln Memorial University concludes the year with a 14-13 mark. Catawba College moves to the semi-finals and jump to 18-9 on the season.
Chloe Bully led the offensive attack for the Lady Indians with 19 points and Dana Hicks followed closely behind with 17 points. Nisha Long and Taylor May scored 13 and 11 points respectively for Catawba College on the evening.
The Lady Railsplitters were led by Dayshalee Salaman, who concluded her spectacular career with 19 points, four assists, and three rebounds. Lauren Cochran added 14 points and nine boards. MaRanda Boddie and Ralissa Nelson scored nine points apiece for LMU to round out the majority of the scoring for the Lady Railsplitters.
LMU was defeated in the battle of the boards by a margin of 51-35. The Lady Railsplitters shot an outstanding 46 percent from the field while limiting Catawba College to 40 percent in the contest.
The Lady Railsplitters held the early advantage, as they jumped out to a 5-2 lead in the on Lauren Cochran's bucket a minute into the contest. Catawba tied the contest up at seven apiece with 17:33 to play in the half and LMU quickly regained the lead at 10-7 with a layup by Dayshalee Salaman and free throw from Cochran.
LMU was hanging tightly to a 14-13 advantage with 12:43 remaining in the first stanza with Chloe Bully put the Lady Indians on top with a lay up in the next possession. The game saw several more ties in the half before the Lady Railsplitters grabbed a 32-30 lead with 2:16 in the half on Ralissa Nelson's jumper.
Catawba College closed the half on a 7-0 run, capped by Bully's layup with three ticks left to put the Indians on top 37-32 at the break.
The game got away from the Lady Railsplitters in the opening minutes of the second half as the Lady Indians used a 23-8 rally to grab a 60-40 advantage with 10:30 to play. LMU answered with a 20-8 run to cut the deficit back to 68-60 with 1:54 remaining to play.
However, the Lady Indians responded with three free throws to drive the score back to 71-60 with 56 ticks left in the contest. Catawba College used the charity stripe to their advantage in the closing minute as the Lady Railsplitters were unable to push back into the contest. Dayshalee Salaman's last shot of her college career was aptly a made three-pointer as she cut the final score to 75-65 as the Lady Railsplitters fell to Catawba College.
