March 4, 2012

HARROGATE, TN -- The Lincoln Memorial University men's tennis team rebounded from their first loss of the 2012 season with a 5-4 victory over Bellarmine University on Sunday afternoon at the LMU Tennis Complex. The Railsplitters move to 4-1 this spring and 5-2 overall.
Philipp Hoffmann continued his dominant stretch of play with a 6-2, 6-4 victory in the top spot for the Railsplitters. Will Sparks shored up the second spot with a straight sets win over Carlos Antonioli (6-2,6-2). Marcelo Alvim helped LMU take the top three spots as he defeated Jimmy Fernandez in the third slot in straight sets (6-4,6-4).
Michael Koenen picked up a singles victory in the sixth spot in a tightly contest battle with Chip Jabaley to provide the Railsplitters with a 4-2 advantage in singles.
Stefan Hall lost a heartbreaker in the fifth spot in three sets (3-6, 6-4, 10-7). Alexey Minevskiy fell in the fifth spot to Alex Chanley in straight sets.
The Railsplitters only needed one win in doubles play to capture the victory and that win was sealed by the combo of Alvim and Sparks who rolled to a 8-6 victory in the second spot.
Hoffmann and Hall were downed 8-4 in the top doubles spot with Koenen and Minevskiy dropping 9-7 in the third spot. Despite dropping two of three doubles matches, LMU grabbed a 5-4 victory over regional opponent Bellarmine University.
The Railsplitters will be back in action March 7th, when they head to University of the Cumberlands for a nonconference battle. Matches are set to kick off at 2 p.m.
