Lady Railsplitters Suffer 5-0 Loss To Tusculum College, Eliminated From 2012 Food Lion SAC Tennis Championship

ROCK HILL, SC -- The Lincoln Memorial University women's tennis team's season came to a close on Thursday morning, as they were handed a 5-0 loss by the Tusculum College Pioneers in the opening round of the 2012 Food Lion South Atlantic Conference Women's Tennis Championship.
The Lady Railsplitters complete their season with a 14-6 mark while the Pioneers move to 17-3 on the season. They will move on to face No. 2 Anderson University in the semi-finals.
The top three and final singles match were left unfinished as the Pioneers swept the five previous matches to clinch the 5-0 victory and avenge a loss to the Lady Railsplitters in the regular season.
In doubles play, the Pioneers took an early 3-0 lead by capturing all three matches. Holly Verner and Katelyn Doss picked up an 8-6 victory over Leah Donoff and Sofia Lopez Mimendi in the top spot. Megan Buckmaster and Kate Hutchinson won by that same margin in the second spot, defeating Logan Hubbs and Aura Penalosa.
Alexandra Granger and Shena Joseph dropped the second doubles match to Courtney Conley and Taylor Patterson by a score of 8-4.
By winning the fourth and fifth singles matches, the Pioneers ended the match and took the 5-0 victory. Patterson won a nail biter in the opening set but closed strong, taking an 7-5, 6-2 win over Granger in the fourth position. Joseph dropped the clincher in the fifth spot, falling to Hutchinson, 6-2, 6-0.
