June 6, 2012
NORMAN, OK -- Lincoln Memorial University men's golfer Eric Kennedy capped his historic career as a Railsplitter with a selection to the Division II PING All-Region Team, officials announced late Wednesday afternoon.
Kennedy's All-Region honor comes in the wake of his selection to the All-South Atlantic Conference Second Team this season along with earning a bid to the 2012 NCAA Southeast Regional Championship as an individual competitor.
This season, Kennedy led the Railsplitters with a 73.3 stroke average which ranked him fourth in the South Atlantic Conference. The Knoxville, Tennessee native also notched an astounding .828 won-lost percentage with a record of 652-135 on the season to lead the Railsplitters in that category.
Kennedy was the top golfer for a Railsplitters' squad that opened the season with ten-consecutive top-five finishes, seven top-three finishes and a pair of tournament victories. Individually, he finished the year with six top-five finishes, four top-threes and two wins.
His first win of the season came at the Myrtle Beach Intercollegiate as he fired rounds of 71 and 68 to capture that event with a five-under total. Two events later, Kennedy won the Outback Steakhouse Intercollegiate with an eagle on the opening playoff hole. He also put in a strong effort in his final showing at the Food Lion SAC Championship as he grabbed a tie for fourth with rounds of 74, 77 and 72. His low round of 66 in the second round of the Richard Rendleman Invitational tied him for the lowest round in the South Atlantic Conference this season.
Historically, Kennedy will be remembered as one of the most talented players in the entirety of men's golf at Lincoln Memorial University. For his career, he finishes second all-time at LMU with a 73.8 stroke average. His career won-lost percentage of .786 also puts him second on the all-time list in school history. In terms of season records, Kennedy holds the second and third spots for top scoring averages in school history along with the second, third and fourth highest season won-lost percentage records.
Kennedy is joined on the list by five players from South Atlantic Conference member institutions. Carson-Newman College placed three individuals on the team with Jonathan Kim-Moss, Gavin Hay and Liam Ashby getting the nod. Wingate University's Antoine Le Saux and Newberry College's Matthew Campbell were the other two members on the All-Region team.
