Railsplitters Finish 6th At SAC Men's Golf Tournament

ETOWAH, NC - The 2008-09 golf season came to a close Tuesday afternoon for the Lincoln Memorial University men's golf team who finished 6th in the South Atlantic Conference Tournament held in Etowah, North Carolina.
The Railsplitters finished behind 2009 SAC Champion Newberry College who turned in a team score of 883 for the three-day tournament to capture this year's title. Finishing in 2nd place was Wingate University who recorded a team score of 895, while Carson-Newman College placed 3rd with 897, Tusculum College placed 4th with a score of 899 and Brevard College came in 5th with a final 902. LMU's score of 905 SAC opponents Lenoir-Rhyne University for 6th place. LRU finished the tournament with a team score of 914 to place 7th, while Mars Hill college came in 8th with a 920 and Catawba College placed 9th with 935.
Individually, LMU's Cory Bartlett narrowly missed top honors as he placed 2nd in the tournament. Bartlett turned in rounds of 73, 73 and 72 for a final 218, his strongest finish of the year. Finishing in 4th place was Railsplitter Eric Kennedy. Rounding out his first SAC Tournament, Kennedy posted scores of 72, 75, and 73 for a final 220. Teammates Josh Collins, Cory Talley and Brad Neudort also earned spots inside the top-40. Collins shot a 75, an 83 and a 75 for a final 233 to tie for 27th place overall, while Talley shot rounds of 28, 79 and 81 for a total 238 to finish tied for 35th place. Neudorf had scores of 82, 79 and 82 for a final tournament score of 243 to finish in 39th place.
All five Railsplitters competing in the tournament are underclassmen and should give the Railsplitters a solid foundation next year in their next attempt to capture their first South Atlantic Conference men's golf title. With the season now over for the Railsplitters, team members will focus on final exams which will begin next week on the LMU campus.
