Railsplitters Capture 2-0 Region Win Over Barton College
August 29, 2009
HARROGATE, TN - The Railsplitter men's soccer team moved to 2-0 on the season Saturday afternoon with a 2-0 win over the Bulldogs from Barton College.
LMU senior Preseason All-South Atlantic Conference selection Renato Segalla (Santo Andre, Brazil) found the back of the net by scoring unassisted only 28:13 into the match to give LMU a 1-0 lead. After carrying the advantage throughout the remainder of the half and into the intermission, teammate Jimmy Vandenhurk (Walland, TN) scored his first goal of the season which was also unassisted to put the Railsplitters ahead 2-0 at 48:17. The two shots turned out to be the fatal blows to Barton as LMU eventually emerged the winner to remain undefeated in the first week of the 2009 season.
The Railsplitters now have until September 4 to prepare for their regional road match with nearby Lees-McRae College. The match with the Bobcats will be play in Banner Elk, North Carolina and could prove to feature two of the better teams in the region in this early season match up. Most likely LMU Head Coach Helio D'Anna will use the time between now and September 4 to make several adjustments in the Railsplitter's formations and to heal several injuries sustained in the past two weeks.
