Railsplitters Take Anderson Invitational Championship

ANDERSON, SC - On Monday and Tuesday the Lincoln Memorial University men's golf team traveled to Anderson, South Carolina and captured the championship of the Anderson Invitation to win their first outing of the 2009-10 season.
The Railsplitters took top honors among the nine NCAA Division II teams participating in the tournament including South Atlantic Conference schools Tusculum College, Wingate University, Catawba College and Lenoir-Rhyne University. The Railsplitters shot a combined two-day total 598 to edge Limestone College by two strokes in their first match of the fall season.
Sophomore Eric Kennedy (Powell, TN) didn't take medalist honors for the tournament but did press for the lead. Kennedy shot a 73 and a 72 for a two-day total 145 which was one stroke over par and one shot back of North Greenville University's Brad Caldwell and Anderson University's Ryan Booth who both shot an even par 144 to tie for the medalist honors.
Also finishing among the leaders was LMU freshman and newcomer Jamie Chapman (Sussex, England). Champman finished tied for sixth overall by recording rounds of 76 and 72 for a two-day final score of 148, four strokes off the lead. Teammate Cory Bartlett (Shanty Bay, Ontario, Canada) also placed among the leaders by tying for tenth place with rounds of 76 and 74 for a final 150.
Railsplitter freshman Dustin Louth (Washago, Ontario, Canada) and sophomore Jashua Cornett (Mountain City, TN) both completed the field by finishing twenty-eighth and thirty-second. Louth had scores of 78 and 79 for total 157, while Cornett had rounds of 81 and 77 for a tournament score of 158.
The Railsplitters now have until September 28 to prepare for the Tusculum Fall Classic that will be held at Link Hills Country Club in Greeneville, Tennessee.
