Railsplitter Men's Soccer Team Breaks Into NSCAA Top-25
October 6, 2009
HARROGATE, TN - For the first time since the 2008 preseason, the Lincoln Memorial University men's soccer team has earned a spot in the National Soccer Coaches Association of America NCAA Division II Top-25 poll.
Following wins last week over South Atlantic Conference opponent Carson-Newman College (2-1) and most recently former Gulf South Conference sister the University of Alabama-Huntsville (2-1), the Railsplitters broke into the poll released Tuesday afternoon to take the no. 23 position this week.
With a record of 7-2 overall, the Railsplitters' only losses this year have been at the hands of the Bobcats of Lees-McRae College who are now 9-0 on the year and and the nation's no. 2 ranked team and Southern Polytechnic State University (GA) who ranked as the NAIA's no. 10 ranked team last week.
Tied for first place in the South Atlantic Conference with a record of 3-0 and ranked as one of the regions top teams with a record of 6-1, the Railsplitters are poised to be one of the favorites to win the league this year and advance to the NCAA Southeast Region Tournament if they continue their winning ways.
This weekend the Railsplitters will take the next step in reaching that goal of returning to the national limelight when they travel to Hickory, North Carolina to take on the Bears of Lenoir-Rhyne University in a key South Atlantic Conference match-up. First touch for Saturday's match is set for 7:30 p.m. on the LRU campus.
