Railsplitters Blank Catawba To Remain Unbeaten In South Atlantic Conference Play

BARBOURVILLE, KY - The Lincoln Memorial University men's soccer team knocked off visiting South Atlantic Conference opponent Catawba College 2-0 Sunday afternoon to remain unbeaten and once tied in conference play.
The Railsplitters move to 4-0-1 in the league while their overall record stands at 8-2-1. Catwaba College falls to 4-9-1 overall and 0-5-1 in the South Atlantic Conference standings.
LMU got it's first goal of the match came in the 25th minute when the Railsplitters were on the receiving end of a hard foul in the box. Senior forward Willian Moura (Belo Horizonte, Brazil) then stepped in to take a penalty shot and sent a blast into the back right corner to put LMU on top 1-0.
After taking the 1-0 advantage into the intermission, LMU dictated possession throughout the entire second half. In the 83rd minute, junior midfielder Aaron McKenna (Birmingham, England) slipped past two Catawba defenders and chipped a shot past the keeper to give LMU their eventual 2-0 margin of victory.
Railsplitter sophomore goalkeeper Michael Watkins (Statesville, NC) had two saves in the match and got credit for the shutout while Catawba goalkeeper Tyler Held recorded four saves with two goals against.
Excluding more rainy conditions, the Railsplitters are scheduled to return to campus for their final two regular season home matches of the year this week. On Wednesday, the LMU men will play host to Brevard College before hosting non-conference, regional opponent Francis Marion University on Saturday during senior day.
