Railsplitters Beat Mars Hill 1-0

MARS HILL, NC - Jimmy Vandenhurk (Walland, Tenn.) scored from about 25 yards out at the 68:37 mark to lift Lincoln Memorial University to a 1-0 victory over Mars Hill Tuesday night in men's soccer action at the Ammons Family Athletic Center and Meares Stadium. MHC fell to 5-7-4 overall and 2-3-3 in the SAC while the Railsplitters improved to 10-3-1 overall and 6-0-1 in the league.
MHC edged the Railsplitters in shots, 14-13 and had five more corner kicks (6-1) than LMU. Justin Spencer played all 90 minutes in goal for MHC and made eight saves. Michael Watkins (Statesville, N.C.) also played the entire match in the net for LMU and made three saves.
The Railsplitters now need Tusculum to tie or defeat Carson-Newman in their upcoming match, and then LMU must travel to Wingate University on Saturday and defeat the Bulldogs in order to win the South Atlantic Conference Regular Season Championship outright. Saturday's match gets underway at 4:00 p.m. in Wingate, North Carolina.
