Railsplitters Have Strong Representation On All-South Atlantic Conference Teams

ROCK HILL, SC - As has become the norm during the Helio D'Anna coaching era at LMU, the Lincoln Memorial University men's soccer team made a strong showing on the All-South Atlantic Conference Teams that were released recently by the conference office in Rock Hill, South Carolina.

Named All-South Atlantic Conference First Team were Railsplitter junior midfielder Aaron McKenna (Birmingham, England), junior defender Lucas Pereira (Monte Siao, Brazil) and sophomore goalkeeper Michael Watkins (Statesville, North Carolina).

Although he played in only 12 of the Railsplitter's 16 matches this season, McKenna, a 5'9" three-year letter-winner scored one goal and tallied one assist to help the Railsplitters achieve a 10-5-1 record this season while earning a third place finish in the South Atlantic Conference regular season standings.

Pereira, a 6'1" newcomer to the Railsplitter program not only continued what has become a great tradition of defenders at LMU but made an immediate impact on the LMU program by helping the Railsplitters notch seven shutouts this season, including one tie.

In his second year as a starter and with the Railsplitter program, Watkins spent over 1427 minutes in the net for LMU this season while allowing only 13 goals all year and recording 43 saves while posting seven shutouts.  His 0.82 goals-against-average was at the top of the South Atlantic Conference statistics along with his league-best shutouts-per-game which was 0.47.

Earning All-South Atlantic Conference Second Team honors were senior forward Willian Moura (Belo Horizonte, Brazil) and freshman midfielder Fernando Silveira (Brasilia, Brazil).

Moura, a two-year letter-winner, finished the season as the Railsplitter's second leading scorer with three goals and one assist for seven total points.  Silveira scored one goal and assisted on two more in his first season in a Railsplitter uniform but endured a mid-season injury that kept him sidelined during four of LMU's 16 matches this season.

The Railsplitters graduate five seniors but will return a strong nucleus of players for the 2010 season.  The Railsplitters will return six seniors in 2010 that will be looking to lead the LMU men back to the South Atlantic Conference Tournament and hopefully to the NCAA Southeast Regional Tournament.
