Lady Railsplitters Place 14th At Kiawah Island Invitational

Box Score

KIAWAH ISLAND, SC - The Lincoln Memorial University women's golf team officially got the 2010 spring schedule underway over the weekend when they traveled to Kiawah Island, South Carolina to participate in the Kiawah Island Intercollegiate at Cougar Point Golf Course.

The Lady Railsplitters placed 14th among the 16 teams involved in the tourament which was hosted by South Atlantic Conference member Tusculum College.
Bad weather conditions have prohibited the Lady Railsplitters from practice on an actual golf course since returning from the holiday break. That fact was evident in their performance over the weekend as freshman Brittany McCown (Sevierville, TN) finished highest of the five LMU players in the tournament. McCown tied for 40th place with rounds of 82 and 84 for a two-day total 166.

Sophomore Chelsea Boshears (Jacksboro, TN) finished next highest in a tie for 62nd place with rounds of 86 and 90 for a final 176, while Desta Coker (Dunsford, Ontario, Canada) and Maria Stapleton (White Pine, TN) tied for 65th place with scores of 177. Coaker shot an 89 and an 88, while Stapleton turned in rounds of 82 and 95. Lady Railsplitter senior Kirsten Wolff (Amherstburg, Ontario, Canada) placed 78th with scores of 90 and 98 for a two-day total 188.

The Lady Railsplitters now have until the weekend to prepare for the upcoming Newberry Invitational that will be held at Hilton Head, South Carolina's Moss Creek Golf Course. Although dry conditions are forcast for the tri-state area toward the end of the week, temperatures are expected to be extremely cold and less than favorable for Lady Railsplitters to practice. The Newberry Invitational gets underway February 15th.
