Women's Golf Finishes 10th At Newberry Invitational

HILTON HEAD, SC - Playing in its second tournament of the spring season, the Lincoln Memorial University women's golf team placed 10th among the 16 teams participating in the Newberry Invitational held at Moss Creek Golf Course in Hilton Head, South Carolina earlier in the week.
The Lady Railsplitters turned in a two-day total 729 for the event and finished fifth among the seven South Atlantic Conference teams competing in this year's tournament.
Host Newberry College won the tournament by nine shots, posting 330-331 for a two-day total 661. Carson-Newman finished second with 670, while Armstrong Atlantic State University carded 684 to place third. Catawba College shot 684 to finish fourth, followed by UNC Pembroke (690), Wingate University (692), Florida Tech (707), the University of Montevallo (711), Anderson University (716), Lincoln Memorial University (729), Tusculum College (731), Queens University (736), Mount Olive College (739), Pfeiffer University (753), Columbus State University (782) and Mars Hill College (797).
Individually, Chelsea Boshears and Maria Stapleton finished highest among the LMU players participating in the event. Boshears shot 89-89=178 to tie with Stapleton for 37th place. Stapleton turned in rounds of 92-86=178. Finishing in 48th place was Brittany McCown. McCown turned in rounds of 92-93=185, while teammate Desta Coker shot 93-97=190 to place 59th. Lady Railsplitter Kristen Wolff had scores of 97-95=192 to tie for 60th place.
The Lincoln Memorial University women now have until February 27 to prepare for their match play against Tusculum College. The Lady Railsplitters will travel to Holston Hills Country Club in Knoxville, Tennessee to take on the Pioneers on a neutral course in that event.
