LMU Softball Sweeps Concord
February 19, 2010
HARROGATE, TN -- The LMU softball team improved to 4-0 on the season as they defeated Concord University 6-0 and 4-1 Friday afternoon.
The Lady Railsplitters will host Urbana University Saturday at noon.
Game One -- LMU 6, Concord 0
The opening game was a tight defensive struggle until the 5th inning, when the Lady Railsplitters got the bats going and scored six runs to grab the 6-0 win.
The frst hit of the game for either team came in the bottom of the fourth when Ashley Legge singled up the middle to break the drought.
LMU then exploded for six runs in the bottom of the fifth inning. Brittany Stuive got things going as she doubled to left center. Then Cierra Mudd knocked one over the left field wall for 2 RBI and the 2-0 lead. Joy Grills then was walked and later advanced to second on a wild pitch. Two batters later Grills would score when Jackie Adams hit the infield RBI single to third base. After Adams stole second, Devin Sponseller singled to right field to bring Adams home to make the score 4-0. Later in the inning, back to back RBI singles by Bridget Eicher and Heather Baker would get Meagan Effler and Legge across the plate to put LMU up 6-0. LMU then clamped down defensively to take the 6-0 win.
Adams led LMU at the plate, going 2-4 with an RBI. Mudd not only went 1-3 with a home run and 2 RBI but also pitched the complete game to pick up her first win of the season from the mound. She gave up two hits and struck out three batters.
Katie Billingslea and Stephanie Harper each went 1-3 at the plate for Concord.

Game Two -- LMU 4, Concord 1
Game two saw the LMU battery dominate the game, giving up only one hit as the Lady Railsplitters picked up the 4-1 win.
Concord got on the scoreboard first in the third inning when Kaylyn Klatt crossed the plate following a LMU error.
The Lady Railsplitters answered the run in the bottom of the inning when an RBI single to left center by LMU catcher Devin Sponseller got Chelley Christian across the plate.
LMU scored again in the fourth when Christian single to left center scored Ashley Knight. Then in the fith Sponseller doubled to left field, allowing Jackie Adams to come in from third. Sponseller would then score herself on a squeeze play a few minutes later to put LMU up 4-1.
For the game LMU was led by Sponselller, who went 2-3 from the plate with a double and 2 RBI. Christian also had a breakout game, going 2-3 with an RBI.
Meghan LaFevor picked up her third win of the season, going 4.1 innings and giving up one hit and one run while striking out three batters. Ashley Legge came in during the fith inning and picked up her first save of the season.
Concord's lone hit came from Katie Billigslea in the fourth inning.
