HARROGATE, TN - LMU Head Soccer Coach Helio D'Anna announced more additions to his 2010 men's soccer roster Thursday morning as he released information on the signing of Fabio Costa (Compos do Jordao, Brazil), Jose Moreno (Longmont, CO) and Nicholas Muth (Knoxville, TN) as the latest signees for next season.
Costa, a 6'0" midfielder from Universidade Paulista will be an incoming junior in 2010 and brings a great deal of experience with him when he joins the Railsplitters. Costa has played for such youth clubs as Brasilis (Aguas de Lindoia), Clube Atletico Joseense, Primeira Camisa, Esporte Clube Sao Jose and C.F.Z Rio de Janeiro. "Fabio is an excellent midfielder," said D'Anna. "He is strong, creative and has great athleticism. He will carry on our tradition of great midfielders at LMU."
Moreno comes to the Lincoln Memorial University soccer program from Alexander Daawson High School in Longmont, Colorado. A 5'8" defender, Moreno will play both the left defender and left midfielder positions while with the Railsplitters. "Jose is a good lefty and those type players are hard to find," said D'Anna. "He is a great wing player and will work well in our system. Jose is a competitor and an assist maker." Among Moreno's accolades are team MVP, all-league honorable mention, hardest working player award and awards for the Club MVP of the Nomads Cup and all-state teams.
Nicholas Muth comes to the Railsplitters from Farragut High School in Knoxville, Tennessee. While with the Admirals, Muth was named all-district, all-region, all-state, he was named to the All-KIL Team and to the Prep X-tra Team. In 2007, Muth received defensive player of the year and in 2009 his team won the state title. On the club level, Muth is a member of the Tennessee ODP program where he won state championships in 2007, 2008 and 2009. "Nick is the most dedicated player I ever coached," said Farragut High School Head Coach Wallie Culbreth. "He is a leader who led us to the state championship and is feared by his opponents."
The 2009 Railsplitters graduated five seniors and finished the year with a 10-5-1 record which included a 6-1-1 South Atlantic Conference mark. "This is a great assortment of talent," says LMU Head Coach Helio D'Anna. "Fabio is a playmaker, Jose will be a force on the left wing and Nicholas is a complete defender. This is a very exciting class to have coming in next year." The Railsplitters will report to campus in early August for preseason conditioning and will open the 2010 schedule in late August.
