May 27, 2010
HARROGATE, TN - Lincoln Memorial University men's golfer Eric Kennedy has been named NCAA Division II PING All-American Honorable Mention bye the head coaches throughout the country. The teams were released by the Golf Coaches Association of American Thursday afternoon.
A sophomore from Powell, Tennessee, Kennedy led the 2010 Railsplitter men's golf team to their first ever South Atlantic Conference Tournament title and their first NCAA Division II National Tournament appearance with a 73.1 stroke average this season while earning First Team All-South Atlantic Conference, South Atlantic Conference Men's Golfer of the Year and was named to the All-Tournament Second Team at the 2010 SAC Men's Golf Championship. The two-year letter-winner finished inside the top-10 in five of the Railsplitter's 12 matches this season.
Kennedy becomes only the second Lincoln Memorial University men's golfer since joining the ranks of the NCAA in the early 1990's to earn All-American honors for his play on the course. He joins former LMU men's golfer Chris Kolesnik as the only two Lincoln Memorial University men's golfers to earn All-American status in any capacity.
With their first SAC title under their belt, this fall the Railsplitters will return a host of talent as the team loses only Josh Collins to graduation. Kennedy will be joined by teammate and Second Team All-South Atlantic Conference selection Jamie Chapman (Sussex, England) as the top two returnees that will lead the Railsplitters in defense of their 2010 crown when the team returns to campus in late August for fall semester classes.
