LMU Women's Basketball Holds Successful Skills Camp
June 18, 2010
HARROGATE, TN - Over the past week, Lincoln Memorial University Head Women's Basketball Coach Stephanie Smith held her second annual LMU Women's Basketball Skills Camp in the University's Tex Turner Arena.
Throughout the past four days, area girls ages 6-14 have worked on the fundamentals of the game focusing on passing, handling the ball, shooting, rebounding, defense and teamwork while participating in many contests and games each day.
More than 60 campers participated in this year's event that was directed by Coach Smith and assisted by current LMU Women's Assistant Coach Matt Acton, former LMU Women's Assistant Coach Dawn Skelcher, several current and former Lady Railsplitter players and other individuals involved with women's athletics from throughout the area.
Entering her third season at the helm of the Lincoln Memorial University women's basketball program, Smith has progressively been becoming active in local community events that are in many ways involved with area youth. This week's camp targeted girls primarily from Claiborne, Bell and Lee Counties in an effort to introduce the proper fundamentals early in life.
"I was very pleased with our individual basketball camp this summer," said Smith. It is always great to get to help the kids improve their fundametals." Stephanie Smith and her 2010-11 Lady Railsplitters will most likely take the floor for individual workouts in early September shortly after the beginning of fall semester classes at LMU.
