WEATHERFORD, Okla. -- The Lincoln Memorial University men's basketball team is tied for fourth in the preseason NCAA Division II Media Poll, which was released by D2SIDA officials on Tuesday.
Â
The Railsplitters accumulated a 30-3 overall record last season to break the South Atlantic Conference single-season record for wins and winning percentage while also becoming the first time in league history to win three consecutive regular season titles. Lincoln Memorial matched the 1976-77 squad for the school record for wins, even though it took three more games for their predecessors to accomplish that feat, and hosted the NCAA Division II Southeast Regional for the first time in program history.
Â
Lincoln Memorial returns seven of its top nine scorers from the 2014-15 team, including preseason All-SAC selections
Luquon Choice (Laurens, S.C.) and
Gerel Simmons (Accokeek, Md.), who combined to score 25.4 points per game last season.
Â
With their inclusion in the Division II Media Poll, the Railsplitters are ranked inside the top 10 in four different preseason national polls. Lincoln Memorial was slotted fourth by the Sporting News, fifth by the NABC and seventh by the Division II Bulletin.
