MUSCLE SHOALS, Ala. – Guided by a fourth-place individual finish from
Sam Broadhurst and a clutch final-round, two-under par 286, the Lincoln Memorial University men's golf team advanced to the match play portion of the 2018 NCAA Division II Men's Golf Championship with an eighth-place finish after 54 holes of stroke play qualifying at the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail at the Shoals Fighting Joe Course. The Railsplitters ended the three days of qualifying with a four-over par total of 868 to beat out a slew of contenders for the final spot in match play. (

The Railsplitters entered the day in eighth place and nursing a slim six-stroke lead over Delta State and an eight-shot cushion over St. Mary's and Southeast Oklahoma State in the race to earn the final spot in Thursday's matches. Behind its lowest round of the tournament, Lincoln Memorial finished nine shots clear of Colorado-Colorado Springs, who made the biggest charge up the leaderboard of any team on the final day. Southeast Oklahoma State fell 11 shots back of the Railsplitters, while St. Mary's and Delta State stumbled to 11th and 12th place finishes, respectively.
Several players rose to the occasion for the Railsplitters, but none more so than Broadhurst, who shot a four-under par 68 to finish in sole possession of fourth place on the individual scoreboard with a remarkable 10-under par total for the tournament. After making a bogey on his fourth hole of the day, the junior All-Southeast Region selection played the final 14 holes at five-under par, which included a stretch with three straight birdies on holes two through four.
After mostly struggling through the first two rounds of the tournament,
Harry Boyle was sensational in Wednesday's round with a one-under par 71. The sophomore, who was also named to the All-Southeast Region team, played the first 10 holes at two-under par to power his round and finish in a tie for 55th place.
SAC Freshman of the Year
Dan Bradbury was also rock solid once again with a one-over par 73. After a tough stretch in which he bogeyed three holes over a four-hole stretch, the freshman righted the ship with a pair of birdies. He then birdied the par-five seventh hole to close out his round and solidify a tie for 26th place in the event.
Senior
Garrett Tucker came up clutch as well with a two-over par 74 – his best round of the tournament. The Tazewell, Tenn. native made the turn at two-over par and pulled back level with back-to-back birdies to start the back nine. He earned sole possession of 77th place.
Sophomore
Brady Davis struggled in Wednesday's round, starting with two bogeys and a double on his first four holes en route to a seven-over par 79.
The Railsplitters finished the 54 holes of qualifying with the fourth-most birdies in the field (55) behind only West Florida's 60 and Lynn's and Saint Leo's 58 apiece. Lincoln Memorial blistered the par fives to the tune of a 10-under par total and a 4.83 average.
Florida Southern finished first in the stroke play portion of the competition with a remarkable 24-under par total. The Railsplitters will face the No. 2 nationally-ranked Mocs on Thursday's morning in the quarterfinals of the Men's Golf Championship with the winner advancing to play another match on Thursday afternoon.
The remainder of the condensed field includes Barry, Lynn, West Florida, Indianapolis, Arkansas Tech and Saint Leo in the hunt to crown the 2018 national champion.
