Railsplitters move into top five on day two of South/Southeast Regional

CONOVER, N.C. – Powered by a program NCAA tournament record round from Sam Broadhurst, the Lincoln Memorial men's golf team shot a second-round, four-over par 288 on Tuesday to move into a tie for fifth place at the 2018 NCAA Division II South/Southeast Regional at Rock Barn Golf & Spa. The Railsplitters, who have accumulated a 16-over par total of 584, will enter the final round of the regional in position to qualify for the national finals for the first time in program history. At minimum, the top three teams and top two golfers not affiliated with an advancing team will earn a berth to the NCAA Championship that will be held May 21-25 in Muscle Shoals, Ala. Last season, the top seven teams from the South/Southeast Regional advanced to the national finals. Lincoln Memorial has never finished higher than 13th in its four previous regional appearances.

With its second-round 288, Lincoln Memorial ascended from a tie for eighth into a tie for fifth. The Railsplitters' 16-over par total trails only No. 1 nationally-ranked West Florida (-1), No. 2 Florida Southern (+1), No. 5 Barry (+1) and No. 6 Lynn (+5).

Lincoln Memorial is tied with No. 10 Rollins and ahead of a pack of nationally-ranked foes that will be chasing on Wednesday, including No. 11 Columbus State (+22), No. 9 Limestone (+24), No. 4 Florida Tech (+25), No. 7 USC Aiken (+10) and No. 3 Nova Southeastern (+26).

Broadhurst led the Railsplitters' charge up the leaderboard with a flawless five-under par 66. The All-SAC first team selection dropped in five birdies without a blemish on his scorecard to move into a tie for second place individually. The 66 represents the lowest NCAA tournament round in program history, shattering the previous watermark of 71 Broadhurst set in last season's regional.

Broadhurst's five-under par total of 137 trails only Florida Southern's John VanDerLaan, who fired a blistering six-under par 65 to establish a two-stroke lead.

Harry Boyle recorded his second straight even-par 71, making two birdies and two bogies to maintain a share of 12th place with a two-round total of 142. Freshman Dan Bradbury made a three-shot improvement between rounds one and two, following a 78 with a four-over par 75 to move into a tie for 77th place.

Sophomore Brady Davis and senior Garrett Tucker rounded out the Railsplitters' day with rounds of 76 and 83, respectively. Davis is tied for 87th with a 13-over par total of 155, while Tucker is tied for 95th at 17-over par.

Lincoln Memorial will try to lock down a berth to the national finals on Wednesday when the final round of the South/Southeast Regional concludes. Live results are available here
