Acton came to LMU in 2010 after two seasons at Winston-Salem State University in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.
A native of Owensboro, Kentucky, Acton has a long line of experience when it comes to the game of women’s basketball. Following graduation from Western Kentucky University in 1995, he served as women’s assistant coach at Brescia College in his hometown of Owensboro, Kentucky, from 1995 to 1998. During that time, Brescia tallied a 78-19 record while making two NAIA National Tournament appearances.
During the 1998-99 season, Acton moved to NCAA Division II Francis Marion University as assistant where he helped guide the team to a 27-3 record that included a Peach Belt Conference regular season title and an appearance in the 1999 NCAA Division II “Sweet Sixteen.”
From 1999 to 2001 he served as assistant coach at Lander University in Greenwood, South Carolina. During his stay at Lander, the team posted a 28-28 record while earning an NCAA National Tournament appearance in 2000.
Possibly Acton’s biggest contribution came during his tenure with South Atlantic Conference rival Carson-Newman College in Jefferson City, Tennessee. From 2001 to 2008, Acton helped the Lady Eagles to a 116-89 record while earning a trip to the NCAA Division II “Sweet Sixteen,” capturing one SAC Tournament Championship and finishing as tournament runner-up once and regular season runner up once.
“We are very fortunate to have a person of Coach Acton’s skill and ability on our staff,” said Hodge. “His contributions to Lincoln Memorial women’s basketball are immeasurable and I am thankful to have his help. Coach Acton has immense experience in this profession and deserves great credit for his efforts in putting this team together.”
