HARROGATE, Tenn. -- As the end of the year approaches, the Lincoln Memorial University athletics department is counting down the top 20 moments of 2015. LMU baseball's
Jonathan Lowe kicks off the last half of the countdown at No. 10 by accomplishing a rare feat.
Â
Looking to complete the sweep, the Railsplitters hosted the Ohio Valley Fighting Scots in the final game of a three-game nonconference series on March 22 at Lamar Hennon Field.
Â
The Railsplitters trailed 1-0 heading into the bottom of the fourth, but absolutely unloaded over the next four frames behind Lowe's big bat.
Â
The Sidney, Ohio native awoke the Railsplitters' offense with a game-tying solo home run in the bottom of the fourth. The next inning, Lowe blasted a three-run homer over the right-field wall to extend Lincoln Memorial's lead to 6-1. In his very next at-bat, in the bottom of the seventh inning, Lowe slugged his third home run of the game down the right-field line.
Â
He came to bat again in the bottom of the eighth inning with a chance to log the second four-HR game in South Atlantic Conference history, but he lined out to second base.
Â
The Railsplitters went on to defeat the Fighting Scots 10-4 to complete the sweep.
Â
Lowe finished 3-for-5 in the game with three runs and six RBIs, and became the first LMU player to record three home runs in a game since Cody Pack did it in 2010. Lowe is just the third player to accomplish that feat in program history.
